If you are new to the concept of an Independent Dental Hygiene Clinic, I understand that you might have some questions. I’m confident that the information below will answer the most commonly asked questions.

Did you know that you can choose your dental hygienist and where and when you receive dental hygiene services?

To practice in our province, a dental hygienist must be in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) Almost ten years ago, the laws of Ontario changed to provide increased access to dental hygiene care for the residents of the province. Registered Dental Hygienists who are authorized by the College may provide services in settings other than in a traditional dental office. They may choose to have their own office and may even provide house calls. Regardless of the setting, a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) must practice according to the CDHO Standards of Practice, the CDHO Code of Ethics and the current provincial legislation. Laura LaChance RDH is an experienced regulated primary health care provider whose area of expertise focuses on delivering oral health care, providing preventive oral health education and general health promotion.

“I work with clients to develop a customized care plan that includes a gum health assessment, treatment (teeth cleaning) and a daily program to follow at home to help achieve and maintain excellent mouth health. Continuing to see a dentist periodically is an important part of making sure all of your teeth needs are monitored. Since my main focus is on prevention and maintenance, not repairs, I encourage you to continue to see your dentist for dental exams and any x-rays and treatment that might be recommended. If you are looking for a dentist, I will gladly recommend one to you. My goal is to coach you on the concept of the “oral health-total health” connection and as a result have you increasingly value having excellent oral health. For me, the value of preventing oral and systemic disease and helping my clients find better health is truly priceless. Mouth care needs to be a high priority if you are on a wellness journey.”

At Blue Horizon Dental Hygiene I strive to provide quality customized service in a relaxing environment. You will not be rushed. Whether you are a new or returning clients I outline a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to your needs in order to help you achieve the best possible oral health. This will have a positive impact on your overall health. I would be proud to be a member of your oral health team.

Fees for dental hygiene services depend on which services are provided and the time required to complete them. At Blue Horizon Dental Hygiene fees are based on the 2015 Ontario Dental Hygienists Association Fee Guide These fees are set less than fees based on the current year Ontario Dental Association Fee Guide which may be charged at a traditional dental office. You can review the 2017 Fee Guide on the ODHA Website.

Clients often ask how often they should get their teeth cleaned. Frequency recommendations are client-specific as there are many factors to be considered in recommending how often you should have your teeth cleaned. The range could be from 3-12months based on your overall health and the findings at your first cleaning at Blue Horizon Dental Hygiene.
